Communications and Media Student Community
Some students already know what they hope to major in… but many students will explore extensive opportunities during their first few semesters.  The U of M offers specific resources to assist you throughout each stage of the decision.  Your CLA adviser is glad to talk with you for any questions!

“MAJOR” RESOURCES

CLA How-To Guide: Choose a Major
http://www.class.umn.edu/choosing_a_major/
Walk through this online, step-by-step guide to consider resources based on where you are personally in making this decision.

ID 1201: Major and Career Exploration

http://careerservices.class.umn.edu/students/courses/careercourses/ID_1201.html

Take this 2 credit course (taught by the Career & Community Learning Center), to focus on ‘self-assessment’ and ‘exploring options.’

University Catalog

Browse and compare all U of M majors and minors:  1) Enter a keyword, 2) Select a program type, and 3) Search!

Department Directory

http://www1.umn.edu/systemwide/directories/
Learn more about major/minor areas through the department.  First browse their website.  Then, talk with a departmental adviser – before actually deciding on that major.  You can formally ‘declare’ the major later (sometime before completing 60 credits).

Special Events
Look for information sessions and workshops related to specific interests and majors.  Register if needed, and mark your calendar!
