Some students already know what they hope to major in, but many students will explore extensively during their first few semesters. The U of M offers specific resources to assist you throughout each stage of your decision. Your CLA adviser is glad to address any of your questions!

CLA How-To Guide: Choose a Major
Walk through this online, step-by-step guide to consider resources based on where you are personally in making this decision.
ID 1201: Major and Career Exploration
Take this 2 credit course (taught by the Career & Community Learning Center), to focus on ‘self-assessment’ and ‘exploring options.’

Browse and compare all U of M majors and minors: 1) Enter a keyword, 2) Select a program type, and 3) Search!
Department Directory
Learn more about major/minor areas through the department. First browse their website. Then, talk with a departmental adviser before actually deciding on that major. You can formally declare the major later (sometime before completing 60 credits).
CLA Community Majors

Special Events
